When I started my program with Helen Castillo as my personal Holistic Health + Lifestyle Coach, we spent a lot of time examining what challenges I face and we delved into what was preventing me from reaching them. Were these obstacles of my own creation or from external sources? What could I do to overcome these issues, or could I learn to live with challenges by changing my perspective? We talked at length each week, without fail, at an appointed time that I carved out for myself.
Each week brought a new method, a new tool that I could use, and it definitely worked. We took small steps together at each session. We also celebrated what went well, what was challenging from the previous week, and we took time to appreciate the people or events that have made a difference.
Each week we set new action plans and I stuck to them! By making commitments to writing them down and crossing them off as I went, I was able to fulfill these commitments to myself. Baby steps each week helped me to arrive at the end of our 90 days feeling like a different person. Indeed, feeling like the person I had hoped to get back to.

When you have those things—when you are good and true to yourself, you are free to achieve whatever you wish. My coworkers and family have all responded in favorable ways to my changes. By focusing on myself, I have exuded a new joy and a new standard. I found that those around me have started acknowledging my efforts, been excited about my achievements and celebrated with me! No one knows I’m going through a special program, but I know they sense something special because I have had many goals fall into place that I have long been trying to achieve.

Well…not really. I don’t even know where to begin.
When I made my nutritional consultation appointment with Helen I thought, ‘Is it really worth it? Will it just be a review of what I already know—nutritional information I have collected over a span of about 10 years, etc.?’ Let’s just say, it was so much more than I expected.
I met Helen at the Produce Department of my favorite store: Whole Foods Market®. She greeted me with a great big smile and was eager and excited to start. She handed me a folder, catered to my vegan lifestyle filled with goodies such as ‘The Essential Vegan Grocery List’, WFM coupons and flyers, the ‘Vegan Food Pyramid’, ‘What’s in Season’ calendar, and so much more. I was impressed with how well the material was organized and how reader-friendly it was.
She schooled me on seedless vs. seeded fruits, the importance of buying in-season produce, the processing of tropical and exotic fruits, how to extend the life of your leafy greens, vegan egg alternatives, reading and understanding nutritional fact labels, which include shelf life, refrigerated/frozen and produce labels. I can go on and on…(and I’m just touching the surface). I was blown away with how much I didn’t know, myth busters and the wealth of information I gained.
Helen covered more than just food. For example, she recommended must-have kitchen utensils, why it’s so important to buy locally grown, how to make your own veggie and fruit wash, etc. Again, I can go on and on….
The consultation flowed from one topic to another seamlessly. Helen encouraged me to ask questions, and happily answered all of them. And I had plenty. She shared her experiences with me, and her expectations for her clients. The consultation was so worth it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone.
